Morning Trip with Brunch

The hermitage of Montroig is shrouded in legends and mystery and this 13th century building is definately a great place to visit. On the way up 'devils steps' you can still see the imprint of hooves etched deep in the rock. It is said they are the prints of the horse that reared and slipped, and fell into the deep ravine with its rider and subject of the legend of the 'Reconquista'

It is said that a Moorish knight rode up to the hermitage on his horse with the intent of robbing the sanctuary. Inside the church, it is said that the gods were angered and the skies turned black and there was the harshest of thunder and lightening. The candles in the church went out, and the knight, who feared for his life, took his booty and fled into the dark night. he jumped on his horse and they set off into the night, unfortunately, for them both, the horse was startled by the deafening sound of the thunder and it reared and slipped into the ravine. The spot is now known as 'the descent of the Moorish King' It is said there are some, who still swear, that on a clear day you can spot a faint silhouette of the knight with his horse on the other side of the gorge! You can explore this fascinating village before enjoying a typical Catalan brunch, including local cheeses, sausages, bread and wine, etc in a local restaurant. This trip is a different but enjoyable going out for brunch!
